About Our Church

Located in the Adamsville neighborhood of Atlanta, Church of the Master is a 130-member congregation of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).  The church was organized in 1965, during the height of the Civil Rights Movement, as a racially integrated congregation and earned the distinction of being one of the few churches–if not the only church–in the nation to have an African-American pastor (James Hutten Costen, Sr.), and Euro-American associate pastor (Riley MacDonald) serving together.  Today, the membership of Church of the Master is predominantly African-American.

Throughout our history, Church of the Master has been faithful to our surrounding community.  We’ve operated mentoring and tutoring programs for children and teens, a low-cost day care center, and a health ministry.  We host several addiction recovery groups.  We work with local community organizations to provide housing, food, and clothing assistance to those in need.  Currently, Church of the Master is forging new ministries to meet the changing demands of our community and nation.

Church of the Master Presbyterian Church exists to…
BRING
people into relationship with Jesus Christ (Matthew 28:19-20)
NURTURE them into mature Christians (Colossians 1:28)
DEVELOP their God-given talents for service in the Church and the world at-large; (Matthew 10:1)
CELEBRATE God in worship. (Psalm 95: 1-2)
These things we do to
GLORIFY God. (Exodus 20:3)
